Twitter is the perfect social network to connect with
people, share your thoughts, news and information ……for Free! It’s an excellent
marketing tool to use and spread the word about you or business. According to Mashable,
Twitter has over 200 million active users and it’s growing. If you’re looking
to build
your following on Twitter, I’ve listed 10 steps to gaining more followers
below.
1.
Upload a photo for your avatar. Make sure it’s a
clear photo. Using your company logo is okay instead of a personal photo but
avoid using random graphics because it can give the impression that the account
may be spam.
2.
Create a short bio that gives followers a little
information about you and what you do. Add a link to your website if you have
one.
3.
Tweet consistently. I recommend that you should
have a minimum of one post a day and a maximum of three post a day. Tweeting
more than 3x’s is acceptable (I Encourage It) but don’t flood your timeline.
·
Some personal/funny insights into who you are.
Remember you are painting a picture of you or your businesses with your
tweets.
·
Tweet a variety of topics and not just your
personal thoughts.
·
Conversational (as in talking to someone using
the @reply feature)
·
Quote-able or “retweetable” thoughts and links –
things that your audience will want to retweet.
·
Post photos, videos, and links to posts that are
interesting and entertaining.
4.
Engage Followers. Use the ‘search’ feature and look
for comments about your niche –respond to as many as possible.
·
Respond to @replies and thank people for
mentions and RTs.
·
Create #hashtags for your posts to aggregate
them. Using hashtags is another way to link up with people with the same
interests as you and increase the visibility of your tweets.
5.
Build your audience:
·
Follow back anyone who tweets about you, your
services, website, and those who engage with you.
·
Using keyword searches and lists, seek out
people to follow and engage.
·
Set up auto-follower back anyone who follows
you.
6.
Create Twitter “Lists” of strategic business partners, clients and other businesses in your portfolio. Make it
public, and use a keyword rich title. Consider other types of lists you could
create and make public.
7.
Use services like FriendorFollow.com or
Untweeps.com to unfollow those who haven’t followed you back. You should do
this regularly.
8.
Always put “Follow Me On Twitter” icons/links on
your blogs, websites, email, and all other social media platforms. This allows
people who are interested in what you’re doing to find your profile and follow
you.
9.
Repost your most popular tweets. Observe which
tweets get the most replies and RTs and repost them 8-12 hours apart.
10. Sign
up and list yourself in directories such as Wefollow.com, Twellow.com, and
Listorious. It can boost your following over time.
